Microneedling in Phoenix, AZ
Improving collagen production is one of the most effective ways to reduce the signs of aging. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Larry C. Leverett, recommends microneedling to stimulate collagen production that has declined due to the aging process. Body by Leverett offers microneedling treatments for men and women in Ahwatukee, Chandler, Gilbert and surrounding communities of Phoenix.
What is Microneedling?
Your body produces collagen as a way to heal injuries to the skin. Microneedling triggers this natural healing response by creating precise, controlled micro-injuries in the skin with a series of tiny needles. The treatment can reduce signs of aging as well as stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and scars.
Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling is an effective way to treat common cosmetic concerns on the:
- Arms
- Hands
- Face
- Neck
- Legs
- Back
- Abdomen
The treatments only take 15 to 30 minutes, and no downtime is required.
Good Candidates for Microneedling Treatments
Certain factors may preclude you from receiving microneedling treatments, such as:
- Active skin infection
- Vitiligo
- Using isotretinoin during the six months prior to the treatment
- Being prone to developing raised scars (keloids)
- Lupus and other collagen vascular conditions
We recommend that you speak candidly and openly with Dr. Leverett about your medical history. If microneedling is not right for you, he will recommend alternative treatments to help you look younger and achieve your cosmetic goals.
What Can I Expect from My Microneedling Treatments?
Three to five microneedling treatments are needed to best improve the cosmetic concerns. Each treatment will take 15 to 30 minutes. A topical numbing cream is used for the treatment. Dr. Leverett uses a special device to create the microinjuries in the skin.

After the Microneedling Treatment
Your skin will have a slightly red appearance immediately after the microneedling treatment, and the skin may feel sensitive. Using an ice pack helps alleviate these symptoms. You may have slight bleeding from the microinjuries, especially if the treatment targets the deeper layers of skin. The redness will last one to two days. You should use sunscreen and avoid any abrasive skin treatments for the first 48 to 72 hours after your microneedling treatment.
