Breast Implant Exchange in Phoenix, AZ

Breast Implant Exchange in Phoenix, AZ

After breast augmentation, it is common that although the implants themselves do not change, over time, the muscles and tissue surrounding the implants can change, which may alter the appearance of the entire breast area. Additionally, after having implants for an extended period of time (including weight fluctuations and/or pregnancy) it is common that the patient may desire adjustments to be made. At Body By Leverett, Dr. Leverett helps women in the Greater Phoenix area by exchanging their implants to restore their desired look.

Why is a Breast Implant Exchange Needed?

Occasionally, it happens that a saline implant may leak or deflate over time. In this case, it is necessary that the implant is exchanged. In some other cases, women need to have silicone implants removed or replaced. This is often the case if the implants have been in for a long period of time. As women age, they lose muscle mass and tissue volume, which can cause the proportions of the breast to change. It is also common for women to exchange their existing implants and get a breast lift at the same time to treat the excess breast tissue or skin that has grown since their initial surgery.

This procedure may also be necessary if a woman has formed scar tissue around the implant. This is a condition known as capsular contracture, and it’s fixed through a capsulectomy procedure. Dr. Leverett can surgically remove the scar tissue and replace the implant. Additionally, if the patient is unhappy with the shape or size of the implants that were placed, they can be removed and replaced.

Furthermore, a breast pocket modification may also be performed alongside a breast implant exchange. Over time, patients may notice that their breast implants shift positions. This happens when the breast tissue stretches, thins or otherwise changes from the presence of breast implants. A breast pocket modification can ensure the surrounding breast tissue holds the desired breast implants in place.

What is the Cost of a Breast Implant Exchange?

Because this is an elective cosmetic procedure, it is not covered by most insurance companies. To make this procedure affordable, Dr. Leverett offers financing for his patients.

Who is a Breast Implant Exchange Recommended for?

Breast implant exchange is recommended for women who are no longer satisfied with the shape or size of their breasts. This may be caused by several factors. This procedure is simple and can usually be done through the same scars as the augmentation procedure

Patient Reviews

"Had a seamless experience with my breast augmentation. Staff and Dr Leverett were very informative and comforting. The entire process from the consultation, to the operating room, to post op was a good experience. Currently 3 months post op, and feel great. No complications and a very easy recovery. Results are EXACTLY what I wanted." - Shai H.

How is the Procedure Performed?

This procedure is performed under the supervision of a board-certified anesthesiologist. In most cases, Dr. Leverett will place the incisions in the same place as the breast augmentation procedure scars to minimize additional scarring. Through these incisions, the breast implants will be removed.

In the case of a capsulectomy, the breast implants will be removed with the surrounding scar tissue. This eliminates the hard, problematic scar tissue that interferes with the look and feel of the breasts, caused by capsular contracture. These implants can then be replaced for better results.

When a breast pocket modification is involved, the breast tissue will be reinforced to create an optimal pocket for the breast implants. This is typically done through stitches that help hold the breast tissue together in the optimal locations.

After the appropriate techniques are performed, the breast implants will be replaced to produce the desired results.

What is the Recovery Time for a Breast Implant Exchange?

Following a breast implant exchange, it is common that the patient will see swelling for 4-6 weeks. If the incision was in the same place as the old scars, you will see similar scarring. However, if the incisions were placed in a new area, you will notice small scars when your body is fully healed. Patients should refrain from strenuous activity for 3-4 weeks. A specific recovery plan will be provided by Dr. Leverett and patients should follow these instructions carefully.

Making the choice to have your breast implants exchanged is an important decision. To decide what the best surgical option for you is, contact Dr. Levertt for a consultation. Dr. Leverett helps women in the Greater Phoenix area regain their beauty and self-confidence.
