The brow lift, or forehead lift, procedure continues to evolve. Over the years, the procedure techniques have expanded to include short incision and endoscopic techniques. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Larry C. Leverett uses some of the latest brow lift techniques to deliver the best possible aesthetic results for his patients residing in and around the Greater Phoenix area, such as Ahwatukee, Chandler and Gilbert.
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, also referred to as a forehead lift, is a procedure that lifts and raises the skin above the eyebrows to reduce the appearance of lines and creases on the forehead. Over time, age, hereditary, overactive muscles and other factors, can take a toll on your face and make the skin look old, wrinkled and rundown. A brow lift can give you a younger-looking appearance with just a few specially placed incisions.

How Much Does a Brow Lift Cost?
The cost of a brow lift varies depending on the extent of surgery and the number of procedures needed to achieve your desired results. Most insurance companies consider brow lifts to be an elective cosmetic procedure and, therefore, do not generally cover the costs. To help make brow lifts more affordable to his patients, Dr. Leverett offers financing through CareCredit® and Prosper Healthcare Lending. Our office also accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, cash and cashier’s checks.
Benefits of a Brow Lift
A brow lift benefits not only your face but also your overall self-image. A brow lift can offer benefits including:
- Reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on and around the forehead.
- Lifts drooping eyebrows and upper eyelids.
- Creates a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
- Minimal scarring.
- Increased self-esteem.
Candidates for a Brow Lift
At your consultation, Dr. Leverett will review your main concerns and the results you desire. After examination, he will discuss with you the options available and what you can expect following each option. Often patients come in to discuss a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) with the concern of excess upper eyelid skin and upon evaluation determine that the skin is due to the aging process of the brow. By returning the eyebrow to its natural position it corrects most, and in some cases all, of the excess skin. Ideally, a female should have the hair bearing brow above the brow bone, and in men, it is ideally on the bone. As we age, the brow can begin to “droop” known as brow ptosis and cause hooding on the upper lid. In some cases, a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) is done in conjunction with the brow lift to remove remaining skin and enhance the appearance of the eyes.
Your Brow Lift Surgery
The forehead lift (brow lift) procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and in some cases can be done under local IV sedation and general anesthesia in others. The procedure usually involves incisions in the hair-bearing scalp. Occasionally, incisions may be performed on the forehead and/or the upper eyelids. Once the incisions are made, the deeper layers of the forehead are lifted. Specific facial muscles, such as the glabella (between the eyebrows) are weakened to soften the lines and reduce the need for Botox®. The incision is designed to be inconspicuous when healed. The results are a lessening of the effects of gravity and an elevation of soft tissues of the forehead and eyebrows in order to restore a more youthful contour to the upper face. Dr. Leverett is known for his artistic ability to achieve a desired result and maintain a natural, rejuvenated appearance versus a tight, surgical look.
Recovery from Brow Lift Surgery
You will be sent home from the surgery with a dressing on that can be removed the next day. Some bruising and swelling will occur with the procedure and subside in 10 to 14 days. Our patients start anti-bruising remedies prior to surgery to reduce the bruising and often use topical products after surgery. The forehead will feel very tight for the first few weeks and then soften. The results of the forehead lift are permanent. However, gravity continues to affect all body tissues, which is why other facial rejuvenation procedures might be recommended in the future.
